What subjects can students study with Mixt Academy Malaysia?
Mixt Academy Malaysia supports academic subjects, including Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, General Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, English Language, English Literature, History, Geography, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies, Computer Science, ICT, Law, Sociology, and Islamic Education, as well as languages. Availability varies by level and curriculum, so we match the student with tutors whose experience matches the subject being studied. For example, a Form 5 SPM Accounting student needs a different tutor than an IGCSE Accounting learner or an A Level Economics student. Families can start with one subject and add another as priorities change.
Which Malaysian and international curricula do your subject tutors support?
Our tutors support students following Malaysian and international curricula, including primary and lower-secondary programmes, SPM, STPM, UEC, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, Cambridge and Pearson A Level, and the International Baccalaureate, depending on subject and tutor availability. We do not assume that the same subject is taught or examined identically across different programmes. Mathematics, Biology, or Business Studies can have different topic depth, assessment objectives, and paper formats depending on the curriculum. Before regular lessons begin, we ask for the student’s year, qualification, and subject. This makes tutor matching more accurate and keeps lesson materials relevant to the course the student is actually taking rather than a generic version of the subject.
How do you match my child with the right subject tutor?
We begin with the exact subject, curriculum, year level, current performance, and learning goal. We also consider whether the student needs ongoing support, topic recovery, or exam preparation. We then match tutors based on relevant subject knowledge and teaching experience, not just whether they’ve studied the subject before. A strong tutor explains concepts at the student’s level and adapts when an approach isn’t working. The free trial lets the student and parent judge the tutor’s pace, explanations, and communication style. If the match is not right, that feedback helps us understand what needs to change.
Why is curriculum-specific tutoring important if the subject is the same?
The subject name may stay the same, but assessments can change considerably. An IGCSE Mathematics paper can emphasise different content and question styles from SPM Mathematics, while A Level and STPM subjects can differ in topic order, depth, and examination structure. The same applies to English, Sciences, Accounting and Economics. A tutor who understands the student’s curriculum can spend lesson time on relevant content, terminology, and paper-writing techniques rather than teaching material that doesn’t align with the exam. Our tutors therefore work from the student’s actual syllabus, school sequence, and exam board, where applicable. This matters near mocks and final exams, when the wrong question style can waste revision time.
Can my child take tuition for more than one subject?
Yes, students can receive support in one subject or several subjects, depending on tutor availability and the family’s schedule. Some learners need focused help in one difficult area, while others want regular support across Maths, Sciences, Languages or Humanities. Each subject should receive support according to its own needs rather than the same lesson frequency. A student may need weekly Additional Mathematics tuition but only short-term Chemistry support before an assessment. Different subjects may require different tutors, particularly at advanced levels. If priorities change during the year, families can discuss adding, reducing or changing subjects so tuition continues to reflect the student’s current workload and goals.
How do tutors identify the topics my child actually needs help with?
We look beyond the school grade. A low mark can result from missing foundations, a weak topic, poor exam technique, careless errors, slow working, or difficulty explaining answers. During early lessons, our tutor can review tests, school feedback, or diagnostic questions to see where the difficulty begins. In Mathematics, that might mean tracing an algebra error back to an earlier skill. In Biology, the issue may be accurate knowledge but weak structured responses. In English, the student may understand the text but not answer the question precisely. Once the cause is clearer, lessons can focus on the most important skills.
Do you provide tuition for primary and lower-secondary students and exam classes?
Yes, subject tuition is not only for exam students. Primary and lower-secondary learners can receive help with core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, Bahasa Melayu, and other available subjects, depending on the tutor’s expertise. The goal is often to secure foundations before gaps become harder to fix. A student who struggles with fractions, scientific vocabulary, or reading comprehension can benefit from targeted one-to-one support without waiting until SPM or IGCSE. Tutors can follow current school topics while revisiting earlier skills when necessary. Parents can share worksheets, assessment feedback or textbook chapters so lessons stay connected to classroom learning while still addressing the student’s individual gaps.
How can tutoring help students prepare for SPM?
SPM preparation works best when students understand content and can use it under exam conditions. Our tutors can support subject knowledge, topic revision, answering techniques, and timed practice in line with current subject requirements. The approach differs by subject. Mathematics may require repeated problem-solving and error correction, while Sejarah or Pendidikan Islam may need accurate knowledge combined with structured written responses and KBAT application. Science subjects may require both concepts and examination-specific terminology. We encourage students to use school trial papers and relevant past or exam-style questions after weaknesses have been identified. Tuition should not become endless paper drilling; practice works best when every mistake leads to a clear next step.
Do you provide STPM subject tuition?
Yes, for available subjects where we have tutors with suitable STPM experience. STPM is demanding, so matching students with the right tutor is especially important. Students may need support in areas such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Studies, Accounting, History or Geography, depending on the current subject offering and tutor availability. Lessons can focus on difficult concepts, semester content, written responses, data or exam technique. Families should share the current subject code, semester and syllabus before tuition begins. This helps the tutor work from the correct version rather than relying on older notes or assuming A Level content is automatically equivalent.
Can you support UEC students?
Yes, depending on the subject and availability of a tutor familiar with the relevant Junior or Senior UEC level. UEC students may need support in Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Accounting, Business-related subjects, or other areas offered by their school. The depth and assessment expectations can differ from SPM or Cambridge courses, so we do not treat UEC as just another label for the same lessons. Parents should share the exact level, subject, and current school materials before tuition starts. Our tutor can then focus on the topics and question styles the student is actually expected to handle. Where a specialist UEC tutor is not available for a particular subject, we would rather be clear about that than match the student with someone whose experience does not fit.
Do you offer tutoring for IB subjects?
Yes, subject support may be available for IB students where we have a tutor experienced with the relevant programme and level. IB Diploma subjects can have different Standard Level and Higher Level requirements, internal components, and assessment objectives, so families should share the exact subject and level before matching. Tuition can support understanding, revision, exam practice and subject-specific skills. When internal assessments or other graded coursework are involved, our tutors can explain requirements, discuss concepts, and provide learning-focused feedback, but the submitted work must remain the student’s own. This protects academic integrity while still helping students become more independent. Availability can vary across subjects, so specialist IB matching may require more care than matching a common SPM or IGCSE subject.
How are online lessons adapted for different types of subjects?
The lesson format varies by subject. Mathematics and Physics may use a digital whiteboard for calculations and diagrams, while Chemistry or Biology lessons can combine visual explanations with structured questions and data analysis. English, History, Sociology or Business may involve shared documents, essay plans and paragraph feedback. Computer Science or ICT can use screen sharing for code or practical software work. Our tutors choose tools according to what the student needs to do, not simply to make the lesson look interactive. The student should still solve, explain, write, or analyse during the session rather than watch the tutor complete everything. One-to-one online tuition works best when technology supports active practice and immediate feedback.
Do tutors use past papers, mark schemes and exam reports?
Yes, when appropriate for the student’s qualification and subject. Past papers help students recognise how syllabus content is tested, while mark schemes and examiner reports can show what stronger answers do differently. However, these resources are most useful after the student understands the underlying topic. Completing many papers without reviewing mistakes can create the illusion of revision while the same weaknesses continue. Our tutors can use past questions diagnostically, identify recurring errors and then return to targeted practice before trying another question. We also check the exam board and syllabus year when necessary, as paper structures and content can change. The aim is not to memorise model answers but to understand how to earn marks on unfamiliar questions.
